source

It's hard to say goodbye and I tried very hard to avoid it but once I started reading I couldn't stop! I finished the entire book in one day i.e yesterday .

Rachel Vincent pulls you into this amazing world and doesn't let you go till the very end.She leaves you wanting more!

Rachel is an amazing writer. Loads of times books loose their pace and allure as the series progresses and writing a story that goes on for seven books is not easy but she manages to pull it off. The last three books in the series have been AHMAZING and If someone asked me which is the best book in the series I think I'd have to think really hard. There were some(to be exact just two) books in the series that were a little disappointing (Especially Book 4 ) but this is one series I would recommend to almost everyone. The character building is great and the author does not hesitate in breaking the rules.

Character building is important and the characters in this series have depth and are more than just caricatures. The relationships are built beautifully and the emotions felt by the characters are experienced by the reader. I could easily connect and form a relationship with the characters even though I didn't have a lot in common with them.

Kaylee is a strong heroine who uses her brain. She may have come across as love struck and a naive girl in the beginning of the series but she's not one anymore. She's selfless and at times willing to go to any lengths to protect the ones that she loves. In a way she's become wise and has realized that the world works in certain ways.

Nash is a character I've had a rocky relationship with. I never loved his character. He came across as too sweet and understanding at first and that made me suspicious. My suspicions were justified and there were a lot of things that he did that I hated but I understand his reasons.I don't hate him anymore.

Tod is a character I loved   love. I liked him from the very beginning! He had a minuscule part to play in the first book but this sarcastic and funny guy left his mark.Tod is my favorite character from this series and I think I'm gonna miss him the most.

Sabine is a character that at times I HATED with a vengeance but it's hard to hate someone who speaks the truth and calls out people when they're lying to themselves. I think this is one character that I have grown to like and even love as the series progresses.

All the secondary characters (there are too many to name) are memorable and have a story to tell and Rachel tells that story beautifully.

I don't want to give away spoilers so I'm not going to write much about the story except for the fact that it was gripping but at times I found it to be predictable.I knew that a particular incident was going to happen and that is why I wasn't surprised when it did but that doesn't mean that the book was boring or didn't hold my interest. Sometimes it's the journey that is important and this is one journey that has had a lot of ups and downs. The final conclusion is one that nobody should miss out on.

Overall, this is one series I think everyone should read. It starts off slowly but keep in mind that character building cannot be rushed. The final conclusion did not disappoint me and that in itself is an achievement. I cannot wait to read another series by Rachel Vincent.Anathema release soon PLEASE!

Classic Thursday: Emma by Jane Austen

CLASSIC THURSDAY

a feature in which I review classics.

Please keep in mind that these are my opinions on the books. All these works are distinguished.

Emma
'I never have been in love; it is not my way, or my nature; and I do not think I ever shall.'

Beautiful, clever, rich - and single - Emma Woodhouse is perfectly content with her life and sees no need for either love or marriage. Nothing, however, delights her more than interfering in the romantic lives of others. But when she ignores the warnings of her good friend Mr Knightley and attempts to arrange a suitable match for her protegee Harriet Smith, her carefully laid plans soon unravel and have consequences that she never expected. With its imperfect but charming heroine and its witty and subtle exploration of relationships, Emma is often seen as Jane Austen's most flawless work.

My Thoughts:

I have a love/hate relationship with Jane Austen. I just don't understand why these books are considered classics. I'm pretty sure in the modern day they would be classified as chick lit.I think that maybe at that time maybe nobody wrote chick lit, so if Jane Austen introduced the concept of chick lit to the world I think we owe her a huge thank you.The world would seen like a very sad place without Sophie Kinsella.

Emma is a gossip and a busybody. She likes fixing people up and basically sticks her nose in places nobody wants her to. Some people might find her to be irritating but I didn't. I think the fact that I remembered that she had nothing else to do helped me keep my cool. It's not like they had television or the internet to pass the time at that time.

Knightley was a character that fascinated me. Austen's men always have an allure that cannot be ignored. Knightley is a practical man and that is why his and Emma's friendship is fascinating and amusing in some ways. If I reread this book it will be for Knightley and the lovely language.

There are times when I don't understand why everyone including Knightley is so captivated by Emma but then Austen gives a peak into the strength that she possesses .I think Emma's rebellious and strong character makes her stand out from those around her.

Overall, this is a book that seems less like a classic and more like a chick-lit with old fashioned people and better language.

My Rating:
3/5

Favorite Quotes:

"I cannot make speeches, Emma...If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more. But you know what I am. You hear nothing but truth from me. I have blamed you, and lectured you, and you have borne it as no other woman in England would have borne it."

"I lay it down as a general rule, Harriet, that if a woman doubts as to whether she should accept a man or not, she certainly ought to refuse him."

Review: Stone Cold Seduction

This book is for adults.

Stone Cold Seduction (Set in Stone #1)

When a regular night of Robin Hood-ery results in the manifestation of some, um, unusual paranormal abilities, perfume-maker Elleodora Fredricks realizes the normal world she lives in isn't quite... normal. And neither is she, thanks to her father, king of the shadow elves. Not only is he evil incarnate and the reason Elle moonlights as a burglar someone has to take care of all his victims he s stolen her memories.
And only reading her fate can fix that.
Good thing she's got a trio of hotties willing to help her find said fate, but only if she gives them something in return. Saving her oracle BFF's fiance, falling in love with the gargoyle, and making up for breaking the phoenix s heart ought to be a piece of cake for the princess of the shadow elves.
If only the king didn't want his daughter dead..

Source: Publisher for an honest review (Thanks Entangled!)

My Thoughts:

This book started off really well. The characters are different and I love the fact that it's not your average run-off-the-mill urban fantasy with vampires. It has phoenixes and gargoyle's . The introduction and build up of the story was brilliant. The start really reeled me in and got me very excited.

Then the insta-relationship(?) between Jax and Elledora came up. This relationship made me very uneasy. There was no build up except for the fact that she thought he was hot. I'm sure lots of relationships start off like that but the fact that she trusted him and started thinking of the L word didn't go down well with me. I just didn't get the relationship .

Fortunately the Jax-Elledora relationship is just a part of this novel. The best part about this novel are the various twists and turns and Elle's friendship with Teryl. I also enjoyed the flashbacks .There is a love triangle but it's not a full fledged one yet. I think it will definitely be a major plot point in the second book but I'm actually looking forward to it. I for one want Elle to get with MacLean. (Team MacLean FTW!) The Jax-Elle relationship just doesn't seem real and felt a little botched up to me.MacLean and Elle have a history and I can't wait to find out more about it.

The story is always affected by how good the villain is and this book has an EVIL villain. You actually feel scared of him. Elle's father is a formidable opponent for her and that is what helps to keep this story interesting.

Towards the end the pace slips up a little bit and I got disconnected with the story but that doesn't mean that I've lost interest in the characters.I'm still interested in getting my hands on the sequel!

Overall, this book is full of adventure and is unpredictable but it has it faults. I expected much more from it.

My Rating:

3/5

YRAH Bday: Ink GIVEAWAY

I promised you guys I will have an awesome event and I keep my promises!

YOUNG READERS blog is now 2 years old!

And

THAT

calls for a celebration!

I'm going to post giveaways, excerpts etc. weekly from now on!

FIRST up is the giveaway of a book that I'm very interested in....

I looked down at the paper, still touching the tip of my shoe. I reached for it, flipping the page over to look.

Scrawls of ink outlined a drawing of a girl lying on a bench.

A sick feeling started to twist in my stomach, like motion sickness.

And then the girl in the drawing turned her head, and her inky eyes glared straight into mine.

On the heels of a family tragedy, the last thing Katie Greene wants to do is move halfway across the world. Stuck with her aunt in Shizuoka, Japan, Katie feels lost. Alone. She doesn’t know the language, she can barely hold a pair of chopsticks, and she can’t seem to get the hang of taking her shoes off whenever she enters a building.

Then there’s gorgeous but aloof Tomohiro, star of the school’s kendo team. How did he really get the scar on his arm? Katie isn’t prepared for the answer. But when she sees the things he draws start moving, there’s no denying the truth: Tomo has a connection to the ancient gods of Japan, and being near Katie is causing his abilities to spiral out of control. If the wrong people notice, they'll both be targets.

Katie never wanted to move to Japan—now she may not make it out of the country alive.

Harlequin TEEN was amazing enough to offer a FINISHED copy of Ink for giveaway.

Unfortunately, the giveaway is for North American addresses only.

Not to worry I have loads of INTERNATIONAL giveaways coming up as well my international peeps!

A post on music

So, I found out about an event that's taking place. As part of the event the organizers were asking the participants to blog about their favorite artists, songs and the role music has played in their lives.

The topic really sparked my interest and I wanted to write about it!

I LOVE listening to music. Music is an integral part of my life. Most days I can be found roaming around with my ipod jamming to my songs.

I COULDN'T RESIST , I love this picture!

Music calms me and helps me to focus.Even when I can't get my hands on any electronics to listen to some music , I start humming and singing on my own.The beats, the rhythm , the vocals and the talent continues to amaze me.When I'm tense or worried I just put on some music and it just washes away my worries and proves to be more therapeutic to me than meditation at times.

Language is no bar for music. Sometimes, I've been obsessed with songs whose lyrics I can't even understand. I cannot imagine a life without music. I think it would be a very sad day when there is no more music in the world.

Let's hope that day never comes because if it does I might not be able to retain my sanity.

One Artist that you need to listen to
Florence and the Machine. Her voice is magical.

The songs above are two of my favorites. I like more songs by her. Seven Devils, Shake it off , Breath of Life are some other songs you can check out.

Song I'm currently obsessed with

Imagine Dragons-Round and Round

Song by a famous music director very few people have heard of

A.R. Rahman composed the soundtrack for a lot of movies but I love this song.
It's called Dil Gira Dafatan and it was in a movie called Delhi 6

Some of my other favorites can be found on the left sidebar under songs I'm listening to.I can't list all of course otherwise this post will never end.

Thanks HP Connected Music India for giving me a push for writing this post. I hope the event is a huge success.
