Waiting on Wednesday(22)

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting! This week I am waiting on...

Carrier of the Mark (Carrier Trilogy #1)
by Leigh Fallon

Their love was meant to be.
When Megan Rosenberg moves to Ireland, everything in her life seems to fall into place. After growing up in America, she's surprised to find herself feeling at home in her new school. She connects with a group of friends, and she is instantly drawn to darkly handsome Adam DeRĂs.
But Megan is about to discover that her feelings for Adam are tied to a fate that was sealed long ago—and that the passion and power that brought them together could be their ultimate destruction.

Expected Publication: 4 October 2011

I've heard really good things about this book! Plus this book was discovered on Inkpop! Plus Jennifer Armentrout (author of Half Blood) can't stop gushing about this one!

I'm also waiting on ......

The Son of Neptune (Heroes of Olympus #2)
by Rick Riordan

In The Lost Hero, three demigods named Jason, Piper, and Leo made their first visit to Camp Half-Blood, where they inherited a quest:
Seven half-bloods shall answer the call,
To storm or fire the world must fall.
An oath to keep with a final breath,
And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death.
Who are the other four mentioned in the prophecy? The answer may lie in another camp miles away, where a new camper has shown up and appears to be the son of Neptune, god of the sea...

Expected Publication: 4 October 2011

The cliffhanger ending of The Lost Hero is the reason I want to read this one! It isn't exactly YA but I love Riordan's writing!

SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING ON? HAVE ANY OF THESE BOOKS CAUGHT YOUR EYE?

Cover Alert!

Here's the cover of Touch by Jus Accardo.....

Jennifer Armentrout kept on gushing about this one! (I like her taste!)

Blurb:

When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.
Except there’s something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she’ll turn to dust if he touches her. It’s not until Dez’s father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there’s more to this boy—and her father’s “law firm”—than she realized.
Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation—an organization devoted to collecting “special” kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons—his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.
A secret Kale will kill to protect.

Ashton, you don’t understand what you’ve done to me.” He sighed, his scent swirling around me once more. “Everything has changed now. I’ve never felt this way before. You overwhelm me.”

Banned Books Week Giveaway Hop!

Feel free to check out my 200 FOLLOWERS GIVEAWAY and giveaways of The Willows:Haven and Betrayed.

Banned Books Week Giveaway Hop is  hosted by I am a reader, not a writer and I read Banned Books.

It's Banned Book Week!

Banned Books Week (BBW) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment.  Held during the last week of September, Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship by spotlighting actual or attempted bannings of books across the United States
The books featured during Banned Books Week have been targets of attempted bannings.  Fortunately, while some books were banned or restricted, in a majority of cases the books were not banned, all thanks to the efforts of librarians, teachers, booksellers, and members of the community to retain the books in the library collections.  Imagine how many more books might be challenged—and possibly banned or restricted—if librarians, teachers, and booksellers across the country did not use Banned Books Week each year to teach the importance of our First Amendment rights and the power of literature, and to draw attention to the danger that exists when restraints are imposed on the availability of information in a free society.
You might think that books are banned/challenged no more, but some of your favorite books may have been banned or challenged .......

I think this is an excellent initiative as almost all of these books DO NOT deserve to be challenged or banned.I,for one think that denying people the right to read these books is not the way to go.Some of these books have some objectionable content but that doesn't mean that they should be BANNED!
Hunger Games, is an exceptionally well written and hard hitting book .I think everyone should read it!
Harry Potter on the other hand is one book that I think even young children should read.It is such a good book. This book introduced me to the world of fiction and books and I don't think anyone should be denied this book.
You will also be surprised to know that almost all classics have been challenged and banned repeatedly.

Now,for the giveaway

Have You Heard(2):Half Blood by Jennifer Armentrout

A feature  in which I highlight books that
people have never heard of.They could be by  Indie authors or just books that were released but didn't leave a mark. They could even be books that are yet to be released.
This time I'm featuring......
Half-Blood (Covenant #1)
by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Blurb:
The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi pure-bloods have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.

Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:

Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.

Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

I LOVED THIS BOOK! IT WAS SO GOOD! I'll be posting a lot of Half Blood related posts in the coming month. This book is one book even I'm going to buy!

Expected publication: October 18th 2011 by Spencer Hill Press
but It's available for preorder here:

ECOPY IS AVAILABLE FOR $3.99 ONLY!
Still not convinced?

Review:Dark Parties by Sara Grant

Dark Parties
BLURB:
Sixteen-year-old Neva has been trapped since birth. She was born and raised under the Protectosphere, in an isolated nation ruled by fear, lies, and xenophobia. A shield "protects" them from the outside world, but also locks the citizens inside. But there's nothing left on the outside, ever since the world collapsed from violent warfare. Or so the government says...

Neva and her best friend Sanna believe the government is lying and stage a "dark party" to recruit members for their underground rebellion. But as Neva begins to uncover the truth, she realizes she must question everything she's ever known, including the people she loves the most.(source: goodreads)

Source: Netgalley(Thanks to Hachette Book Group)
NOTE: NOT SUITABLE FOR YOUNGER READERS due to some scenes .

My thoughts: I was very reluctant to pick up this book because of the creepy cover.I had to practically force myself to pick this one up and I'm very glad that I picked it up! This was one good book!I cannot believe I didn't read this one sooner(I BLAME YOU creepy cover!) .This book was so interesting that I had a hard time putting it down and I am crossing my fingers for a sequel!

Let me give you a lowdown of the world the characters of this book  live in......

The government controls everything.
People who rebel against the government disappear and everything is recycled.
The population is shrinking .
Everyone looks similar and rebels feel compelled to mutilate themselves to look different i.e they feel compelled to forge a birthmark.
Everyone lives in a sealed glass dome called the Protectosphere.
Nobody knows whether there's any life outside the Protectosphere.

I loved the world that Sara Grant builds in this book. It's so realistic and you can relate to almost all the characters. You can draw parallel's between this book and real life effortlessly. This book reminds you of conservative societies and families.

Neva, the main character is curious and rebellious. She wants to know why she's doing something in a society that doesn't question anything.Even though she's scared she doesn't back down .She doesn't hide in a corner or become a puppet to the organization when the going gets tough.I really admired her courage and determination. There are very few female protagonists in YA fiction that you can look up to and Neva is one of them. She has real problems  and she does make mistakes  but at least she doesn't make stupid mistakes which make you want to growl in anger.

I loved the sparks between Neva and Braydon. Braydon is well....you'll just have to read this one to find out!
*Rant*
I love Braydon!!!!!!!!!!
OMG Braydon and Neva!!!!!
Neva how could you???
Braydon X Neva <3
*Rant ends*

The best thing about this book is the fact that it is unpredictable till the very LAST page.Just when you think you've figured out what happens next, something totally and completely unexpected happens.Sara Grant's writing keeps you hooked and engrossed till the very last page and if you are looking for a new dystopian fiction  this is the book for you!
