Review: Obsession by Jennifer Armentrout

THIS BOOK IS FOR ADULTS.

Obsession
He’s arrogant, domineering, and... To. Die. For.

Hunter is a ruthless killer. And the Department of Defense has him firmly in their grasp, which usually doesn’t chafe too badly because he gets to kill bad guys. Most of the time he enjoys his job. That is, until he’s saddled with something he’s never had to do before: protect a human from his mortal enemy.

Serena Cross didn’t believe her best friend when she claimed to have seen the son of a powerful senator turn into something... unnatural. Who would? But then she witnesses her friend’s murder at the hands of what can only be an alien, thrusting her into a world that will kill to protect their secret.

Hunter stirs Serena’s temper and her lust despite their differences. Soon he’s doing the unthinkable—breaking the rules he’s lived by, going against the government to keep Serena safe. But are the aliens and the government the biggest threats to Serena’s life… or is it Hunter?

My Thoughts:
I am a huge fan of Jennifer Armentrout. Anything she writes I will buy because all her books are great fun and Obsession does not disappoint!

Obsession is a novel that takes place in the Luxen world found in the Obsidian series but the main character is an Arum which is the mortal enemy of the Luxens.

I don't think you need to read the Obsidian series to understand this book but their *might* be some spoilers for the Obsidian series.

This book is HOT and I enjoyed seeing things from the point of view of the other species. In this book the Luxen are the bad guys and the Arum is a good(?) guy . I wasn't too sure about the concept of reading an Arum novel but Jennifer makes it work and actually manages to make you more curious about this species and the world in which they live.

The romance was the star of this story but it did remind me of Daemon and Katy from the Obsidian series. It was like watching an adult version of Daemon and Katy from the Obsidian series but I couldn't compare Hunter to Daemon. Hunter has a very distinct personality that jumps off the page but Serena felt like Katy 2.0 to me.

I'll definitely be in line for a sequel if there is any.

Overall, Fans of obsidian might be in for a surprise with this book.

My Rating:

TOSS UP Between 3.5 stars and 4 stars

Couldn't decide!

  1. I'm curious about reading about the Lux and Arum from a different point of view. I've seen only extremely positive reviews, and I was wondering if the characters were just older versions of Daemon and Katy.
    Great review!

    1. It's not classified as New Adult it's classified as Adult and it's pretty clear that the people aren't new adults but have jobs. Plus there's quite a bit of adult content. Not 50 shades content but romance novel content :P

  7. I've only read Obsidian and Onyx until now and I'm really not much into the series. But boy! Everyone loves JLA so much and maybe, just maybe I might think of going back to Lux. Anyways, that aside, I'm glad you liked this one and yeah, the Arum sound pretty interesting. Great review!
