Review: Unravelling

Unravelling (Unraveling #1)
24 meets the X Files in the biggest teen blockbuster of the summer…

STOP THE COUNTDOWN. SAVE THE WORLD…

Leaving the beach, seventeen-year-old Janelle Tenner is hit head on by a pickup truck.

And killed.

Then Ben Michaels, resident stoner, is leaning over her. And even though it isn’t possible, she knows Ben somehow brought her back to life…

Meanwhile, Janelle’s father, a special agent for the FBI, starts working on a case that seems strangely connected to Ben. Digging in his files, Janelle finds a mysterious device – one that seems to be counting down to something that will happen in 23 days and 10 hours time.

That something? It might just be the end of the world. And if Janelle wants to stop it, she’s going to need to uncover Ben’s secrets – and keep from falling in love with him in the process…

My Thoughts:
I don't know how to rate this novel . I liked a lot of parts but there were some things that weren't that great.

The best part about this novel was the fact that it was unpredictable. I can usually predict quite a few things but the author managed to completely surprise me at more than one point! This book is a complete surprise and I don't think anyone will be able to predict the main plot.I was hooked from the start and couldn't stop reading it.

My main problem with this book was the romance.I thought it was a little strange and creepy. It's possible I think that way because I wasn't a huge fan of the male love interest. There's just something off about him.I kept expecting him to "reveal his true colors" (hope that makes sense!)

Janelle was a character I had mixed feelings about. Basically I only had a problem with her when she became all dreamy and started swooning over the love interest otherwise I thought she was pretty awesome. This is one girl who can take care of herself. I just wish she hadn't fallen for the guy...

The pace of this novel is excellent. Even though the romance made me cringe, something interesting always happened right after the romantic parts so I was thoroughly entertained.

One thing I really liked about this book was how the author managed to weave in events that happened in Janelle's life throughout the novel. This really helped give depth to Janelle.I think if some scenes had been from Ben's point of view I could have connected with him better.

For what it's worth I think I'm in the minority regarding the creepiness of the love interest so if you're looking for an interesting thriller that sucks you in and is completely unpredictable just grab this book! I'm definitely going to keep my eye out for the sequel!

My Rating:

Toss up between 3.5 and 4 stars!

Can't decide so I'm giving it a range :)

Cover note:
I like the UK cover of this almost as much as the US one! I hope the UK cover of the sequel is just as pretty as the US one...

  4. I love the UK cover too! Just as much as the US ones, but in a different way. The UK cover almost reminds me of like.. a series of 24 LOL! It kind of sucks that the romance was strange and creepy. I haven't read this book yet, but I've been meaning to.. now I'm a little worried!

    Great review!
