Sara had always been careful.
She never spoke of magic, never associated with those suspected of handling magic, never thought of magic, and never, ever, let anyone see her mark. After all, the last thing she wanted was to end up missing, like her father and brother.
Then, a silver elf pushed his way into Sara's dream, and her life became anything but ordinary.
Then, a silver elf pushed his way into Sara's dream, and her life became anything but ordinary.
Today I have the author of Copper Girl at the blog talking about herself and her book !
So...what can you
tell me about your new book,Copper Girl?
Copper Girl follows Sara Corbeau, an Elemental who has had to hide
her true nature for most of her life. You see, magic has been outlawed, and if
anyone gets caught using the government locks them up and throws away the key.
Sara's doing a pretty good job of being ordinary, until she takes a nap in her
car and has a dream about a man with silver eyes. When he turns out to be real,
things get interesting. What influences and inspirations (both literary and non-literary) did you draw from while writing this book?
I drew inspiration from a few books, namely Sunshine by Robin McKinley and War for the Oaks by Emma Bull. I was also inspired by my own love of jewelry making, my sucession of boring desk jobs, and a lifelong interest in Celtic myth and folk tales.
What genre would you classify your book under? What fascinates you about this genre
Copper Girl is an urban fantasy. I love the juxtaposition of ordinary life with fantastic elements, like an elf working as a barista.
what's your favourite scene/line from the book?
My favorite scene, hands down, is the scene in the oak. If I tell you about it, I'll give away a huge spoiler, so you'll just have to read it ;)
Tell us five interesting things about yourself.
1. I began my first novel in the eight grade
2. I have been to six European countries
3. I have three year old twins
4. I have worked as a book seller, barista, recycling coordinator, retail manager, marketing coordinator, and claim analyst
5. I have a tattoo based on the comic Elfquest
Can you tell us a little about the main characters in Copper Girl?
Sara Corbeau is the titular copper girl. She's a metal Elemental, and her mark is a copper raven emblazoned across her back. Her father and brother went missing after the Magic Wars, and she's been trying to lay low and avoid the same fate. Her love interest is Micah Silverstrand, also a metal Elemental, who just happens to be an elf from the Otherworld, and the Lord of Silver. He takes Sara to his ruler, the Iron Queen, to help Sara find her missing family members. We also meet Sara's best frenemy, Juliana; her siblings, Max and Sadie; and her mother, Maeve, who is a bit more than meets the eye.
What would you do If you could rewind time?
That's a loaded question! I would probably leave myself winning lottery numbers or stock tips.
What's the last book you've read?
I just finished
Touch of Death by Kelly Hashway and The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater.
what's next?
I've got the next three installments of The Copper Legacy to get out - Copper Ravens, Copper Veins, and Copper Princess, respectively. There's also a spinoff duology in the works. I'm also gearing up to re-release my epic fantasy series, The Chronicles of Parthalan, in 2014, and I'm working on an urban fantasy set in Scotland. You could say that my plate is full.
Rapid Fire(what it the first thing that comes to your mind when I say....)
Twilight - dusk
Black - blue
Harry Potter - Sorcerer's Stone
Hot - sauce
Wings - Buffalo
Coffee - yes
T.V. - Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Copper - girl

Jennifer Allis Provost is a native New Englander who lives in a sprawling colonial along with her beautiful and precocious twins, a dog, a parrot (maroon bellied conure, to be exact), two cats, and a wonderful husband who never forgets to buy ice cream. As a child, she read anything and everything she could get her hands on, including a set of encyclopedias, but fantasy was always her favorite. She spends her days drinking vast amounts of coffee, arguing with her computer, and avoiding any and all domestic behavior.
