When Melanie, one of the few remaining "wild" humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
Wanderer probes Melanie's thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer's mind with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.
Even though the book starts off a little slowly(Most people just give up in the first 3 chapters) it really picks up and then things happen so quickly that you don't know what just hit you.
Wanderer was such a complex character. You sympathize and love her at once.I really liked her internal dialogues with Melanie. They were refreshing and different.
Ian...How much I love thee!
You're the guy I want to date in my future.Calm, collected and just plain amazing.I wasn't a huge fan of Jared but if he ends up with Melanie I'm fine with it.I will NOT be happy if he ends up with Wanderer!
I REALLY LOVE THE ENDING AND I'M HOLDING MY BREATH FOR A SEQUEL!
Overall, this book is different and amazing! Pick it up right NOW!\
I tried so hard to get into this one because I loved the twilight series but I just couldn't. I guess this one to me just seemed like it would be a better movie than a book. Which is kinda funny because I thought the twilight series were better as books then movies.
ReplyDeleteI loved it! Really, one of my favorites. I read it a long time ago and I still recommending it to friends. I need to re-read it soon!
ReplyDeleteThis book has been on my boookshelf for quite a while now. Bought it at $6 at B&N from their "Under 6" bargain section. Everyone seems love it. I should definitely start reading this one next! Thanks for the amazing review! Glad you loved it!
ReplyDeleteI loved this book too! I'm glad I had my friend Sam around when I read it because I kept wanting to give up in the beginning chapters but she was like no keep reading I told you the first 100 pages are hard but it gets so much better, and I'm so glad I listened because after the first 100 pages it got amazing and I loved it!!

This book is just standing on my shelf for almost a year now. I have to read it,I know. It's just that there are always other books and I can't seem to find the time to pick it up.
ReplyDeleteI bought this off of Amazon but have not had a chance to read it yet. I am hoping to read it before the movie comes out :)
ReplyDeletei think the movie is better than the book....
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about anti-twilight who should enjoy this book. I don't like Twilight, but The Host is sooo much different and soooo much better. This book got hooked me!
ReplyDeleteJamie reminds me of my younger brother (he is still 7). And that part when Wanda cried, I was also crying (literally), lol.
I purchased a copy of The Host when it first published and I STILL haven't read it. I wasn't sure what to expect and I was kind of nervous, but you're review gives me hope that it isn't as bad as I feared it would be! It'll still be awhile before I get to it, but I'm excited to read it now! And thanks for the heads-up about the beginning being slow. I'll definitely try to give it more than three chapters!
