The Host

The Host (The Host #1)

Blurb:
Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed.
When Melanie, one of the few remaining "wild" humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
Wanderer probes Melanie's thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer's mind with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.

My thoughts:  Pick up this book right now!
This is a really good book.People who hate Twilight should also enjoy this one because it's not a very predictable love story. It's set in a different reality altogether.

I have devoured this book at least 3 times. I enjoyed it so much!
Even though the book starts off a little slowly(Most people just give up in the first 3 chapters) it really picks up and then things happen so quickly that you don't know what just hit you.

Wanderer was such a complex character. You sympathize and love her at once.I really liked her internal dialogues with Melanie. They were refreshing and different.

Ian...How much I love thee!
You're the guy I want to date in my future.Calm, collected and just plain amazing.I wasn't a huge fan of Jared but if he ends up with Melanie I'm fine with it.I will NOT be happy if he ends up with Wanderer!

I REALLY LOVE THE ENDING AND I'M HOLDING MY BREATH FOR A SEQUEL!

Overall, this book is different and amazing! Pick it up right NOW!\

  1. I tried so hard to get into this one because I loved the twilight series but I just couldn't. I guess this one to me just seemed like it would be a better movie than a book. Which is kinda funny because I thought the twilight series were better as books then movies.

  8. I totally agree with you about anti-twilight who should enjoy this book. I don't like Twilight, but The Host is sooo much different and soooo much better. This book got hooked me!
Jamie reminds me of my younger brother (he is still 7). And that part when Wanda cried, I was also crying (literally), lol.

  9. I purchased a copy of The Host when it first published and I STILL haven't read it. I wasn't sure what to expect and I was kind of nervous, but you're review gives me hope that it isn't as bad as I feared it would be! It'll still be awhile before I get to it, but I'm excited to read it now! And thanks for the heads-up about the beginning being slow. I'll definitely try to give it more than three chapters!
