Review : Minder

 Blurb:
Sixteen-year-old Maddie Dunn needs to learn how to use her special abilities before somebody else gets hurt. Ganzfield is a secret training facility full of people like her, but it's not exactly a nurturing place. Every social interaction carries the threat of mind-control.A stray thought can burn a building to the ground. And people's nightmares don't always stay in their own heads. But it's still better than New Jersey, especially once she meets the man of her dreams?

My Thoughts:

I want to give this book a beyond awesome rating... because after 4 DNF(did not finish) books I finally finished a book (i.e.This one!)
The concept in this book blew me away!

I've always had a fascination with mutants.Vampires, werewolves, witches etc. always seemed very unreal  to me because there is no way that they exist .Mutants  always seemed like a  possibility to me.They could exist you know.... That's why I've always been a HUGE X-Men fan!

In this book Maddie is a minder,a person who can read minds and has the ability to do a lot of pretty freaky stuff. I really liked Maddie,I would love her more if she was more sarcastic  but I think she was a little too lovestruck throughout the book to actually show off her awesome sarcastic comeback/one-liner skills.

I'm not sure whether I like Trevor or not but I loved Drew!
This quote shows one of the reasons I like Drew.....

Drew thought I was an action hero.He also thought he was an action hero.He thought Hannah was an angel of healing, and that Rachel was ok to have around, too,in case we needed to find stuff. The memories of that horrible night had morphed into an amazing tale of adventure in his mind.
Loved this guy!

I WANT to give this book a beyond awesome rating but I can't because even though the concept was amazing, the story kept me hooked and the characters were interesting ,ONE thing really put me off......

The insta-love and/0r obsession.I hated the fact that the main character fell in love so quickly! She was such an interesting person and I wanted to know more about her! She fell in love too quickly for my taste. It was love at first sight.

But,I could stand the insta-love in this one because there was a good reason for it and it wasn't as if  she didn't know anything about the guy she fell for .She knew a LOT! Actually she knew almost EVERYTHING!

I'd like to see where the author goes from here in Adversary.

Overall,if you can stand and/or ignore the  minor flaw that was love-at-first-sight (I COULD!) This book would  definitely be worth your time. The concept is interesting and there's no love triangle or vampires!

My Rating: 3.5/5

Love the concept!

Content warning:  there's violence, sensuality, and the characters deal with serious issues like sexual assault, but there's no sex in the book, and the language is pretty clean overall.
(Thank you Kate for taking the time to write a content warning for me!)

  1. cover reminds me of across the universe... just make it horizontal and change the background and its the AtU cover~ I haven't heard of this book though but i'm still thinking if ill pick this one up or not. Great review tho... the ratings makes me think twice if I should or not read it.

  2. Too bad on the insta-love but the rest of it sounds fantastic! I've always been an X-Men fan myself so I think I would enjoy this book and the characters:) Really nice review!

  3. Thanks for reviewing this one. I hadn't heard of it before, but now I have thanks to you. Much appreciated. It completely disappoints me about the insta-love though, so I don't know if I will be able to read it or not. That crap just drives me nutty!
