Series Review: Bartimaeus Trilogy

*Image is from Google*

I read this series when I was in middle school and I loved it! It was so good .I think it's a very interesting series and it introduced me to a new and interesting world.

The Amulet of Samarkand (Bartimaeus #1)

Blurb: Nathaniel is a magician's apprentice, taking his first lessons in the arts of magic. But when a devious hot-shot wizard named Simon Lovelace ruthlessly humiliates Nathaniel in front of his elders, Nathaniel decides to kick up his education a few notches and show Lovelace who's boss. With revenge on his mind, he summons the powerful djinni, Bartimaeus. But summoning Bartimaeus and controlling him are two different things entirely, and when Nathaniel sends the djinni out to steal Lovelace's greatest treasure, the Amulet of Samarkand, he finds himself caught up in a whirlwind of magical espionage, murder, and rebellion.

My Thoughts:I love Bartimaeus. He's just so sarcastic and smart.I never thought djinn(pronounced as jinn ) could be such amazing fellows .There were times when I was wondering who was the master and who was the servant (can't think of a better word).I loved the world Stroud introduces us to in this novel. He kept me on my toes and I loved the twists and turns.Nathaniel is an interesting character too.Comparing to the other books in the series, I liked Nathaniel the most and for the longest duration of time in this novel. If you're looking for a book with a sarcastic djinn, magic, interesting plot and world building and don't mind if there's no romance in a book YOU NEED to pick this book up now!

My Rating: 4.5/5

The Golem's Eye (Bartimaeus #2)

Source: Library
My Thoughts:
I didn't enjoy this as much as the first one because this was quite a bit more serious than the first.I have mixed feelings about the new addition to this book (Kitty). This book is definitely much more action packed than the first but Nathaniel became a little irritating in this one.Bartimaeus was AMAZING as usual but I wanted more of him and less of Kitty. Some parts were a little boring and the book could easily have been a little shorter.

My Rating: 3.5/5

Ptolemy's Gate (Bartimaeus #3)

Source: Library
My Thoughts:
OMG! What an ending!!! I did not see that coming at all.I was near tears at the end (That almost never happens )
Now I will give no spoilers but this book was great.Bartimaeus was more frustrated than usual but sarcastic as ever.I also got to see a very humane side of Nathaniel.Kitty grew on me too.The wait was worth it and it was definitely MUCH better than the second novel in the series. The world building was great .There were ample of twists and turns and THE ENDING .God I have no words about the ending.Just that I felt kind of guilty about a LOT of things after I finished reading this book and I DID NOT want it to get over.

My Rating: 4.5/5

Overall, this book series is worth a read.Beg/borrow/buy atleast one of these books and give it a try .

  1. I absolutely adored this series. I sent out a plea asking for a good fantasy read a couple of years ago, and someone recommended this series to me. I was a little hesitant because it was in the children's section of the library, but I took it home anyway. I have not been hesitant since to bring home a Middle Grade novel, and I haven't been disappointed since. This is a fantastic series, no question. Thanks for your series review. It was interesting to see your thoughts on all 3 books in the series on the same page.

  2. Looks like book 2 definitely suffers from middle book syndrome, and it's too bad it's so much more serious than the first. Still, overall this series sounds amazing, and I haven't read very many books that feature the Djinn. Thanks for the recommendation on these, they're new to me and I'm always on the lookout for a fun new series!

  4. I have seen these books in shops many times but did not know much about the author nor his work, hence why i have not read them simply because i did not know whether they were popular or any good. I am therefore really pleased to have come across your review and i am so glad i have read the above, which was most insightful. I look forward to seeking out this trilogy for my bookshelf! x
