Destined by Jessie Harrell

Destined
 BLURB:
When Psyche receives a prophecy gone horribly wrong, she learns that even the most beautiful girl in Greece can have a hideous future. Her fate? Fall in love with the one creature even the gods fear.

As she feels herself slipping closer into the arms of the prophecy, Psyche must choose between the terrifyingly tender touch she feels almost powerless to resist and the one constant she's come to expect out of life: you cannot escape what is destined.

Destined is a fresh and heartachingly romantic retelling of the Cupid & Psyche myth from debut novelist, Jessie Harrell.

Cover: I LOVE THIS COVER! It's so pretty!

My Thoughts:
As soon as I saw this blurb on Goodreads I knew I had to get my hands on this book! I love reading books that deal with mythology!

I read the Psyche-Cupid legend on Wikipedia before I read this book (What can I say?  I was curious!)  and even though I knew the main plot, I really enjoyed this book.

The author  has really spun the tale in such a way that I could relate to almost all the characters, even the gods! This book really brought the greek legend to life in such a way that Young Adult readers will enjoy every minute of it.I look forward to reading more books by Jessie Harrell.

Usually when I read any book that deals with gods, the gods are portrayed as either too mean or too perfect OR just GOD gods.In this book you feel that they're humans with quirky powers and I quite liked that. It was fun to read gods saying "DAMN IT!"(You'd think things were perfect for them ).

This book was also quite informative.I learnt a lot of new things about  greek mythology from it !

Now lets get to the characters....

One character I really liked was Hermes.
I loved the scenes in which Eros and Hermes were just hanging out together and discussing various things. These scenes usually made me laugh.

I  liked Psyche. She's more than a pretty face and even though sometimes she made quite crappy  bad decisions I could still deal with her because she didn't whine and used her brain(Sometimes).

I also liked how Aphrodite was portrayed as an overbearing mother, who's always trying to set her son up with someone.

I would love to give this book 5 STARS but if  I'm rating this as a romance and not a book retelling the events that take place in the Cupid and Psyche legend,  then in the  romance aspect...... I have to say that some parts of this book were quite predictable and a lot of cliche's can be spotted in this book. (Boy hates girl....etc.)

Overall,If I rate this book while regarding it as a retelling of the Cupid and Pysche myth it's 5 STARS but  if I rate it while regarding it as a YA Romance it's 3.5 STARS.If you're a mythology fan ,this book is perfect for you!

  3. I can deal with poor decision making as long as there is no whining, so I'm really glad you mentioned that in your review! I'm seeing this one everywhere lately, I'm excited to give it a try myself:)

  4. I liked particularly how she portrayed the gods in this book. They were more fun, still severe, but with an element of humanity that made them more likeable.

And yes, Hermes and Eros were fantastic :) Great review!

  5. I am definitely a fan of mythology. I don't know the Cupid and Psyche story though. (Wikipedia, here I come!) I have this book on my Kindle, but I haven't made it there yet. I have to say, I have never considered a book from 2 separate angles before. One being the mythology retelling, and the other being the romance, or whatever applies in a certain books sake. It makes a lot of sense though, now that I think about it. I have read a few books that are great from one angle, but don't quite hit the mark on the other. Verrryy interesting! Thanks for your review!
