The girl in the steel corset

The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles #1)

by Kady Cross

She thought there was something wrong with her. She was right.
Finley Jayne has known for quite some time that she isn’t ‘normal,’ but when she beats up the son of her employer and is forced to flee, she stumbles into a world where there are bigger freaks than her. They take her in, treat her like family and demand her trust. How can Finley trust them when she can’t trust herself? And why is she drawn to the powerful Griffin as well as the dangerous Jack? She has to get herself under control before she gets into trouble she can’t get out of.
Griffin King is one of the most powerful men in Britain but he couldn’t save his best friend from almost dying. He is determined to save Finley and help her become the person he knows she can be, but there’s evil afoot in London. Machines have attacked humans under the orders of a nefarious criminal called The Machinist. He has sworn to protect his country against such a threat, but he’s never faced any foe like this. However, when he discovers The Machinist’s connection to his past, Griffin vows to end the villain once and for all — but he’ll need the help of all his friends, including the beautiful Finley Jayne – the girl in the steel corset.

Amazing. That's one word for this book.

I <3 this book.
The story is original and it deals with superpowers.
Let me tell you one thing this book had me at superpowers!

The main character is not a caricature. You can feel her anxiety and instability.Finley has a heart and is going through a tough time in her life. Her power is also extraordinary. She has character. She just doesn't fall into the arms of her savior for no reason. She is REAL!

Griffin is a dream come true.I read this book for him. It's so refreshing that the male is actually NICE and not abusive or mentally unstable.(eg.Edward Cullen)He's not perfect but at least he's not a jerk.

Sam is the only person that I couldn't really relate to or understand but i guess he's supposed to be an inhuman character.

The only thing that confused me was when it was set. They have technology that surpasses the current century but the setting seems to be set in the Victorian era.I mean queen vicoria is not exactly alive right now is she?

Waiting on Wednesday (1)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted here, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.Hosted by Breaking the Spine

though she tries returning to the life she knew before the accident, Pierce can't help but feel at once a part of this world, and apart from it. Yet she's never alone . . . because someone is always watching her. Escape from the realm of the dead is impossible when someone there wants you back.
But now she's moved to a new town. Maybe at her new school, she can start fresh. Maybe she can stop feeling so afraid.
Only she can't. Because even here, he finds her. That's how desperately he wants her back. She knows he's no guardian angel, and his dark world isn't exactly heaven, yet she can't stay away . . . especially since he always appears when she least expects it, but exactly when she needs him most.
But if she lets herself fall any further, she may just find herself back in the one place she most fears: the Underworld.
Expected publication: April 26th 2011 by Scholastic Inc.

5 reasons why I'm waiting for this book:
1.Meg Cabot
2.Meg Cabot writing paranormal.AGAIN!
3.It has something to do with Hades(i.e Greek mythology!)
4.Underworld
5.Did I mention PARANORMAL!!!

What a shame!

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I had very high expectations of this book after reading this book and sadly this book did not live upto my expectations even though the book had a unique concept. Here's a list of pros and cons of the book:

PROS:

1.the concept

Greek mythology is interpreted in a unique way .This is what made me finish this book.

2.Hades

hades is shown to be understanding and not mean or ruthless which is refreshing.

CONS:

1.Kate's relationships

This is a major drawback of the book.

How can a person you just met a day before be your best friend? Kate considered james her friend for no reason. He just comforted her when she was sad.She barely knows him but considers him her best friend!

and ....

How can you fight for a person without knowing them?Kate's relationship with Henry was unreal and unbeleivable. She was fighting for his life because she cared for him.Why did she care for him? He gave her a few minutes with her dying mother but why try so hard to save his life?Furthurmore, you dont just fall in love with someone so quickly and easily.Their relationship progressed too quickly.

The whole book is based on her relationship with Henry and sadly this is what brought the book down because you don't feel for the main characters.Their relationship just seems fake and unreal.

This concept had a lot of potential but unfortunately it wasn't implemented well.

Rage

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I havnt read the first book but the this book was quite interesting.

The main character was relatable and troubled and many teens may be able to relate to her anguish. The beginning of the novel was not that great but you could draw a clearer picture of the story at the end of the book.(It's possible that i didn't understand it because i hadnt read the first book)

The male protagonist,Death was a very sketchy character. He did not go down well with me at all.He appears out of nowhwere and is not properly introduced but his lines are AWESOME and i love his sense of humor.

The book is quite good but could have been much better.

I loved the idea used in the book.

Thanks netgalley for the ARC.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When I started reading paranormalcy,I thought it would be no different from all the other paranormal books out there.
I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED.

What I LIKED:
1.Evelyn:The main character is strong and for the first time the girl is not a damsel in distress. She knows how to fight and fights her own battles. She's strong, spunky, lonely, courageous, normal and paranormal at the same time. She wishes to be a just another normal girl.
2.the pace of the book
The author managed to keep the pace tight. You didn't want to put down the book at all.
3.The idea.
The idea of a paranormal government agency is ingenious. It's a new concept(i think) and one of the reasons i wanted to read this book.

What I DID NOT LIKE:
1.Lend:You can't relate to this character. You do not know his life story and he does not express his point of view often.I think the only reason evelyn is hanging out with him is because he's the only decent and normal guy around who's her age!

2.How the evil person was killed off
It was too easy and short. The bad guy was defeated in an instant. Not even 1 chapter was taken to defeat the bad person.Afterwards you think was the bad guy even a threat?
