Review:All Our Yesterdays

All Our Yesterdays (Cassandra Chronicles #1)

Blurb A brilliantly brain-warping thriller and a love story that leaps back and forth in time - All Our Yesterdays is an amazing first novel, perfect for fans of The Hunger Games.

Em is locked in a bare, cold cell with no comforts. Finn is in the cell next door. The Doctor is keeping them there until they tell him what he wants to know. Trouble is, what he wants to know hasn't happened yet.

Em and Finn have a shared past, but no future unless they can find a way out. The present is torture - being kept apart, overhearing each other's anguish as the Doctor relentlessly seeks answers. There's no way back from here, to what they used to be, the world they used to know. Then Em finds a note in her cell which changes everything. It's from her future self and contains some simple but very clear instructions. Em must travel back in time to avert a tragedy that's about to unfold. Worse, she has to pursue and kill the boy she loves to change the future

My Thoughts:

I've been reading amazing things about this novel. Almost everyone has only good things to say about this novel. Needless to say, my expectations for this novel were sky high and you know what usually happens when you have high expectations from a novel.

All Our Yesterdays starts off in a manner very similar to Shatter Me but in the third or fourth chapter, you can see that this novel deals with things that series does not.

What does this book deal with, you ask? It deals with time travel and love and paradoxes .Now I, for one, am fascinated by time travel but almost every novel I've read about time travel so far has been disappointing. The best thing about this novel is the fact that it becomes VERY clear that time travel is central to the plot but the focus of this novel is not time travel.(I hope this makes sense) Anyways, the time travel element is never forgotten and I love how it's used in this novel. Well done Ms. Terrill , especially for a debut novel.

This novel is told from dual perspectives and at first it's a little confusing but only for the first two or three chapters after that it makes perfect sense (to me atleast because I figured out why the perspectives were needed and whose perspective it was from ). I must say this way of writing the novel is brilliant, because it's something different yet similar.(Avoiding SPOILERS)

Aside from the writing style, the first half of the book was good but as I had such high expectations, I was a little disappointed. The second half is unpredictable and pretty great. So I understand the hype and even though I'm not in love with the novel ,I really liked it.

The characters

Em is such a relateable character. She's mature and she's going through a lot! I really liked her and admire her strength and how she follows her gut.

Finn is a character I wanted to learn more about.I liked what I saw, but I want to see more. I especially want to see more of him showing off his computer genius skills.

Marina is like a typical teenager.Even though she should have irritated me, she didn't because I can see why she's acting the way she is. Also her character grows a lot in this novel and I loved seeing that growth.

James is a character that is flawed and is going through a lot.I don't hate him .

The doctor is a character that I hate. That is ALL.

Overall, this is a great novel that can be read as a standalone. I have no idea what the sequel will be about because this book doesn't end with a cliffhanger (YAY!!) but I'll most probably be reading the sequel. (Unless and until it gets horrible reviews. Then I would like to finish the series at it's high note)

My Rating:
4/5

For a nominal fee, of course...

When gorgeous new client, Lukas Scott, saunters into the office requesting their help to find a stolen box, it sounds like a simple case—until the truth comes out. The box is full of Sin.

Seven deadly ones, in fact.

They’ve got five days to recapture the Sins before they're recalled by the box, taking seven hijacked human bodies with them. Easy peasy—except for one thing...

CHAOS by Christine O’Neil

My name is Maggie Raynard. After sixteen years being just plain me, suddenly I can kill people when I lose my temper. Turns out I'm a semi-god, descended from Aphrodite. Sounds cool in theory, but when I accidentally put my ex-boyfriend in a coma, things go downhill pretty fast.

Now some new guy named Mac Finnegan has made it his mission in life to continually piss me off. I'm stuck learning how to use my new powers while also dealing with regular high school problems, and with this---annoying and super-hot---guy all up in my business, I'm about to flip out.

But it gets worse. I just learned there's this council for semis that wants me dead. They think I'm bad to the bone and when my ex suddenly dies, it's like everyone is determined to take me out. Mac might turn out to be my only salvation, but he's got secrets of his own---that may just kill us both.

About the Book
Blurb:
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue--Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is--she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are--and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, Tris also learns that her secret might help her save the ones she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Here's the trailer of
THE BOOK THIEF

I haven't read the book but the book blurb sounds great

HERE IS A SMALL FACT - YOU ARE GOING TO DIE.
1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier. Liesel, a nine-year-old girl, is living with a foster family on Himmel Street. Her parents have been taken away to a concentration camp. Liesel steals books. This is her story and the story of the inhabitants of her street when the bombs begin to fall.
SOME IMPORTANT INFORMATION - THIS NOVEL IS NARRATED BY DEATH.
It's a small story, about: a girl, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist fighter, and quite a lot of thievery.
ANOTHER THING YOU SHOULD KNOW - DEATH WILL VISIT THE BOOK THIEF THREE TIMES

Last but not the least...
Here is the Teaser Trailer of Vampire Academy

Now I think I had read the first book in the series a while back and I don't remember any of this happening. Maybe they're combining what happens in multiple books or maybe I've just forgotten..

About the Book
St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

My Thoughts:

I loved Jus Accardo's debut novel Touch and even though I wasn't a HUGE fan of the sequel I know that she's a great author that is why I've been interested in this novel ever since the blurb came out.

Darker Days is a great book and has restored my faith in the author. I'm definitely going to read more books by her now! I would like to warn you though, that there are quite a few similarities between some of characters in Touch and Darker Days. One thing I noticed was how just like Kale , Lukas was naive and didn't know how the modern world worked but I was enjoying the novel so much that I was willing to look these over .

I loved Jessie. She's snarky, sarcastic and has awesome one liners.I love the fact that she's not concerned with dating and doesn't keep talking about hot guys all the time. The girl is not superficial and I love that about her. I would suggest you read this novel just for her.

Another thing I would like to mention is the fact that parents do play a pretty large role in the novel which was nice.Damien (Jessie's father) is one character I would love to see more of in the sequel. For some reason I really like him.

There were quite a few twists and turns especially towards the end of the novel.I couldn't predict almost any of them .

This book reminded me a little bit of the Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent but it isn't as serious as that series so if you're looking for something like it you could check out this book.

Overall,I for one am dying to read the sequel.

My Rating:
TOSS UP BETWEEN 3.5 AND 4

I'm bending more towards the 4 stars though

Review: Introductions by C.L.Stone

Introductions (The Academy #1)
by C.L. Stone

With an agoraphobic mother and a barely-there father, Sang abhors the isolation keeping her in the shadows. The only thing Sang craves is a fresh start and to be accepted as ordinary by her peers, because for her being different meant being cast out alone.

When her family moves to a new school district, Sang infiltrates a group of boys nearly perfect in every way. Grateful for an influence outside of her parents’ negativity, she quickly bonds with the boys, hoping to blend in and learn from them what it means to have a natural relationship with friends.

Only the boys have secrets of their own and they’ll do anything to keep her safe from the knowledge of the mysterious Academy that they've sworn allegiance to. Bit by bit, Sang discovers that her friends are far from the normalcy she expected. Will her loyalty change when she's forced to remain in the dark, or will she accept that she's traded one house of secrets for another?

Meet Kota, Victor, Silas, Nathan, Gabriel, Luke and North in a story about differences and loyalty, truth and mystery, friendships and heart-throbbing intimacy.

The Academy, ever vigilant.

My Thoughts:

I usually give a star rating to the books I read but I have VERY mixed feelings about these books.I didn't hate them and I didn't like them either. These books cannot be tagged as 2stars/3stars etc. These are NOT negative reviews. These are my thoughts.....

I can't rate this book. I can find SO MANY faults with this book but I'm still dying to read the sequel. I guess I would put this under my guilty pleasure books tab in goodreads because I just couldn't stop reading this book and I have no idea why! Maybe it has something to do with the fact that it has seven hot guys in it.

You heard me ... SEVEN guys.

The plus point of this book is that there isn't a love triangle/heptagon yet and the male characters are different and draw you to the story. Each of the male characters is intriguing. The characters are just introduced in this book but I can't wait to find out more about them.

My main problem with this story so far has to be the main character.I have mixed feelings towards Sang. She's too naive, trusting and pretty much a walking cliche but I still pity her and can't seem to hate her.I think I might have liked this story much more if it was told in dual POV or from somebody else's point of view. Also, I don't like how some "issues" are being handled in this book.

The plot is interesting yet confusing at the same time.I noticed that not much happens in this book. The book's title isn't misleading at all it just introduces us to the characters and hints at some mysterious secret.I'm pretty sure the main story hasn't started yet.

Overall, I have no idea how to rate this because I couldn't put this book down no matter how much it frustrated me.I think the next book will help me decide whether this series is any good or not.

YRAH Bday: Interview with Rachel Vincent+ GIVEAWAY

YOUNG READER blog is now 2 years old!

And

THAT

calls for a celebration!

Don't forget to check out the previous posts

Ok I know it's been a LONG time since I posted anything interesting or related to this event but it's because I suddenly have absolutely NO free time!

Also, I'm not exactly the most organised person so I forgot to schedule this...

Anyway without further delay I present to you ,one of my favorite authors Rachel Vincent.
(I can't get over the fact that this is happening ! She's an author that I've been wanting to interview for AGES)

Rachel do you have any advice for budding authors?
I have only the advice every writer seems to give out. Write a lot to refine your voice and hone your craft. Read a lot to see how that is done.

If there was a zombie apocalypse would you still pursue a career in writing? Also what do you think you would be incharge of?
By definition, if there were an apocalypse, no one would have a career in anything except staying alive, right? After the apocalypse, maybe I would return to writing. But I'm not sure how much value that particular skill would have in a world so devastated.

Can we expect any YA or New Adult novel from you in the coming year? (Preferably next year *gives puppy dog eyes*)
I announced a new YA sale last week. ANATHEMA and PANDEMONIA have sold to Wendy Loggia, at Random House/Delacorte. But the first one won't be out until 2015, so the only YA I'll have in 2014 is the Soul Screamers Volume 4 omnibus, which will contain one original story.

Books you would recommend to adults & children.
I typically recommend Holly Black, Stephen King, Courtney Summers, Scott Westerfeld, Simone Elkeles, etc...

I don't want to read the last soul screamer novel, how did it feel to actually end such an amazing series?
Draining, but exciting. Bittersweet. It's strange and kind of scary to say goodbye to characters who've been in my life for so long. But I'm pleased to have been able to give them a good ending.

How would you explain what the soul screamers series is about to a person who hasn't read it?
I'd probably direct them to online descriptions of the books, then add that the books are full of complicated family- and friendship dynamics, an array of supernatural beings (some I made up entirely), high stakes, lots of romance, and humor.

All your books in the soul screamers series are based on a certain theme can you tell us about the themes in order?
Each of the seven Soul Screamers books has as its theme one of the seven deadly sins. (Not the plot, but the theme.) In order, they are:

Vanity (MSTTake)
Greed (MSTSave)
Gluttony-as addiction (MSTKeep)
Envy (MSTSteal)
Lust (If I Die)
Sloth-as depression (Before I Wake)
Wrath (With All My Soul)

Rapid Fire(what it the first thing that comes to your mind when I say....)
Twilight
-dawn
Black
-white
Harry Potter
-book
Hot
-cold
Wings
-fly
Coffee
yum
T.V.
-screen
Tod
-death
