Review:Over You

Over You
 BLURB:
After the grand explosion of her relationship, seventeen-year-old Max Scott developed what every girl in the history of the world has been waiting for: a way to get over being dumped. Now Max is the go-to guru for heartbroken high-school girls all over NYC. But when her ex unexpectedly shows up in her neighborhood, Max’s carefully controlled world starts to unravel. With her clients’ hearts hanging in the balance, Max will have to do the seemingly impossible: get over him once and for all.

Brilliant at bringing humor to the trials and tribulations of the lovestruck, #1 New York Times bestselling authors Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus have crafted a tale that will resonate with any girl who has ever been in love or had her heart broken. It brims with smart observations, features a pitch-perfect teen voice, and will attract fans of Jenny Han, Sarah Mlynowski, and Lauren Barnholdt. Readers are sure to fall head-over-heels for this sharp spin on breaking up, making up, and getting even.

My Thoughts:

Well,I was very intrigued by the concept of this novel.I picked it up thinking it would be a nice fun read.Unfortunately I was disappointed.

I don't read a lot of contemporary novels but most of what I've read so far ,I've loved so it's not like I can't stand contemporary novels but I read less of  contemporary fiction.

The concept of this novel was great. It had SO MUCH potential. It could have been so much fun but the authors didn't try to make it fun. I was hooked in the beginning. When I had read through half of the book I finally realized what my problem with this novel was, I didn't like the way it was written.I couldn't get invested in the characters or the story.Secondary characters too weren't fleshed out.

The main love interest was a guy I should have loved but I just couldn't.He was perfect crush material but I just couldn't connect with him. Also,WHY is he interested in Max,again?

But the deal breaker for this novel was the main character,Max.I liked her in the beginning but by the end I wasn't her biggest fan.I get the fact that everyone makes bad decisions but she was BLIND(not literally )!!  I mean what was she thinking?
Also,She kept on postponing her post-breakup cleanup.

After her horrible and if you ask me unforgivable mistake. Her friends forgive her without too much drama (WHY?) and the love interest... Well you can find out for yourself.

I have to give the authors props for keeping the story unpredictable.I did not see that climax coming and there were ample surprises, but unfortunately some of them weren't pleasant surprises for me.

Overall,I think this book just didn't work for me but it wasn't bad,it was OK.I was hooked and managed to finish it (considering the amount of books I don't even bother to finish that's a big deal).I would say if you want ,you should give this one a shot but borrow it from the library or your friend because I don't think it's worth the $1o.If I was dying to read it I'd wait for the paperback .

My Rating:

2.5/5
Loads of potential but no spark.

  1. Well, I guess I will try this one out, but I'm sure it's going to go to the end of my TBR pile (which is toppling over right now). Great review :)

  2. Hmmmmm. I was hoping this one was going to be a cute, fun read as well so I'm disappointed to learn that Max is such a difficult character to really connect with and that the secondary cast leaves something to be desired. I love when stories have really strong secondary characters, it makes the story so much richer I think. I think I'll pass on this one, thanks so much for the review!

  3. Sorry you didn't like this one as much as you wanted to. When you can't connect with the main character it's just hard to get into the book. Don't give up on contemporary though! There are so many good ones out there!

  4. Thank you for a great review and for your honesty, as it is helpful to gage wether to pick up a book and read it or not when you have not herd of it before. It does sound like a good read and as you said it does seem to 'promise much', therefore it is a shame that it does not quite deliver or meet expectations. Thank you x

  5. I couldn't agree with you more about this book! I just read it and loved the concept so much, but it just fell flat. Like you said, Ben was the perfect guy but I couldn't connect with him for some reason, and I really didn't like Max by the end of the book. Especially when she makes the certain horrible decision towards the end, which I saw coming a mile away but still wanted to slap her for. Overall, good idea but not the best execution in my opinion.
