Review:The Shadow Reader (Urban Fantasy NOT YA )

Note:This book is an adult book but there is mature YA reader crossover potential as there is very little adult content. There is absolutely no sexual content in this book but there is a quite a bit of violence .Not recommended for YOUNGER READERS .More about content in  this review.

The Shadow Reader (McKenzie Lewis #1)
There can only be one allegiance.
It’s her time to choose.

Some humans can see the fae. McKenzie Lewis can track them, reading the shadows they leave behind. But some shadows lead to danger. Others lead to lies.

A Houston college student trying to finish her degree, McKenzie has been working for the fae king for years, tracking vicious rebels who would claim the Realm. Her job isn’t her only secret. For just as long, she’s been in love with Kyol, the king’s sword-master—and relationships between humans and fae are forbidden.

But any hope for a normal life is shattered when she’s captured by Aren, the fierce and uncompromising rebel leader. He teaches her the forbidden fae language and tells her dark truths about the Court, all to persuade her to turn against the king. Time is running out, and as the fight starts to claim human lives, McKenzie has no choice but to decide once and for all whom to trust and where she ultimately stands in the face of a cataclysmic civil war.

My Thoughts:

I read very few books that do not specifically belong to the Young Adult genre but after reading the Candace's review of this novel (linked above ) I decided to give this one a shot. She also mentioned in  her review that she thought older and mature young adults could read it as there is no sexual content.

THANK YOU SO MUCH CANDACE! I owe you one for that review for the rest of my life! This book was SO GOOD! I was so unhappy when I finished this book because I wanted more BADLY! I literally jumped in excitement when I found out that there's going to be another book...
This .gif kind of sums it up>>

McKenzie Lewis
I loved this character. Even though she wasn't as strong as the others were in the physical strength department (meaning she couldn't beat all the people up) her emotional strength pretty much made up for it! Plus, she had a wicked cool ability! I also loved the way she tried to escape and wasn't ridiculously stubborn.

Aren
If there's a Team Aren badge I want it! I HATED this guy but I don't know when and where I started liking him.I really don't know. This guy is charismatic and I can see why people would actually want to follow his lead. He's also very passionate towards his cause and I really liked that about him.

Kyol
I LIKED him a in the beginning and then I started hating him and then I started liking him again.... I have mixed feelings about this guy.I think there's a lot of scope in this character. He has a pretty small role in this book . He came across as pretty uptight throughout the novel but I really liked the scenes in which he actually lost a little bit of control.

The characters were very well developed.I loved the way all of them were written and you get so engrossed in the characters that you miss them when the book is over.

The world building in this novel is great.I loved learning about people's abilities ,the way the world worked etc. I WANTED to learn more about the world .I also loved the abilities people had (like Mckenzie was able to read shadows of people and could figure out where they were)

Overall,This is one book I would not miss! PICK IT UP NOW (if you're an adult) without a second thought and if you're not an adult yet wait till you are and read this!!!

My Rating:

5/5
LOVED!
