Review: Cursed by Jennifer Armentrout

Cursed
 Blurb:
Dying sucks--and high school senior Ember McWilliams knows firsthand. After a fatal car accident, her gifted little sister brought her back. Now anything Ember touches dies. And that, well, really blows.

Ember operates on a no-touch policy with all living things--including boys. When Hayden Cromwell shows up, quoting Oscar Wilde and claiming her curse is a gift, she thinks he’s a crazed cutie. But when he tells her he can help control it, she’s more than interested. There’s just one catch: Ember has to trust Hayden's adopted father, a man she's sure has sinister reasons for collecting children whose abilities even weird her out. However, she’s willing to do anything to hold her sister's hand again. And hell, she'd also like to be able to kiss Hayden. Who wouldn't?

But when Ember learns the accident that turned her into a freak may not've been an accident at all, she’s not sure who to trust. Someone wanted her dead, and the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she is to losing not only her heart, but her life. For real this time.

Expected Release Date: September 18th 2012

My Thoughts:

I love Jennifer Armentrout. She's one of my all time favorite authors. She's also a writing machine which is something I love about her.I believe she has 6 novels are coming out this year! So far I've loved all her books but I'm not in love with this one.

Cursed starts off well and takes time to introduce you to Ember and her world.

I really liked Ember.Usually I get very frustrated with female characters but not with her. She's single-handedly looked after her sister and the entire household for more than a year and that takes a lot of courage and requires a person to make a lot of sacrifices. Some people might think that Ember should just snap out of her semi-depression and live her life to the fullest but I could relate to her and her reasons for not being able to move on.I loved the fact that she was willing to do so much for her sister.

Hayden creeped me out.One of the main reasons for why I didn't fall in love with this book was because of Hayden. He comes off as a stalker.I'm sorry guys but I don't like stalker boys .I also couldn't understand why he was obsessed with Ember.I think Ember is a cool chick but  I didn't understand his obsession with her.I understand why Ember likes this guy. He's the only person who's actually thought of her as a human being and he's the only guy that gets her.Still the fact that Hayden followed around Ember for years and the fact that she was ok with it(after some hesitation on her part) was something I couldn't get over.

The pacing was a little slow in the beginning and it seemed as if not much was happening till the second half of the book. I got sucked in after that.A lot of surprising twists and turns take place and I couldn't predict what was going to happen at all!

There is great buildup for the sequel (if there is going to be one).Frankly I think I would like the sequel a lot more because I liked where things were going towards the end and I want to find out more about the history of Jonathan Cromwell and the mysterious organisation.

Overall, this book was nice but it could have been so much better. The protagonist was amazing but the boy creeped me out .If you haven't read anything by Jennifer yet I'd suggest skipping this one and giving either Half Blood or Obsidian a shot.I really hope there is a sequel though.

My Rating:
2.5-3/5

Giving it a range because of the last few

chapters.

Could have been much better.

Favorite Ember quotes:(These are from the ARC .They are subject to change)

"But you don't have anything to worry about  anymore. We'll take care of your sister,And we'll try to take care of you."
I  looked up trying to sound braver than I felt."Do you even understand how creeptastic that sounds? You're a complete stranger to me.You keep talking about gifts and stuff that makes no sense."
PG.43 ARC

"I know you're scared, but you don't have any reason to be now."
"Really? Because you tell me so, huh? And this coming from a boy who has been stalking me with his father."
Pg.53.ARC

"What can I say ?" He started out of the room."Girls are always drooling over me."
"It must do wonders for your ego when it's a five year old."
Pg.106.ARC

Little shivers of pleasure and panic shot through me.I needed to stop, but I couldn't pull myself away, couldn't focus on anything other than how wonderful his lips felt against mine.
Pg. You'll just have to figure it out :P .ARC.

  2. I have to admit I haven't read any of her books yet, but I have Obsidian on my TBR list and I heard so many great things about it! I hope to start reading it soon. The synopsis of Cursed sounds interesting too, to bad you didn't like it that much. I'll start with Obsidian :)

  3. Well shoot! I'm a huge Jennifer Armentrout fan as well, her Covenant series is one of my favorites, so I'm bummed this one isn't quite as amazing as her others. I'm not a big fan of stalker boys either, I have a hard time finding stalking an attractive quality even in a fictional boy, so I Hayden would probably rub me the wrong way as well. I guess I'll have to stick with Aiden and Seth ;-)

  4. Yea, I have trouble with stalkers too. Especially when the girl doesn't see anything wrong with the guy stalking them. Sorry to here that this was a miss for you. I might still check it out. Lots of people are raving about it. Who knows?
