My Thoughts On The Twilight Saga

I've been planning to write this post for a REALLY long time.I'm finally writing it because I just saw Breaking Dawn Part 2 and wanted to discuss it on the blog and I don't think I can discuss it before establishing my views on this series. So here it goes....

I LIKE THE  TWILIGHT SERIES!
There! I SAID IT!

There was actually a time I was obsessed with it. Before the hype and when nobody knew about it..

The time when you said Twilight and people thought

that you were talking about the time of day that was when I was in love with the series.

I was obsessed and I recommended the series to loads of people and all my friends fell in love with it. I never thought it would become such a bestseller that now whenever you Google Twilight you never get the above pic you always get

I don't think Twilight is a masterpiece but when I had read it I had enjoyed it.I'm not sure whether I would enjoy it that much today but when I had read it I really liked it and went and got hold of the entire series.

My Thoughts on Twilight (WHEN I HAD read it for the first time. Before the hype and the movie)

I couldn't put this book down! I wish they hadn't given away the fact that the guy is a vampire in the blurb itself. I would have enjoyed this book even more if I had to guess what he was. I'm Team Edward FTW! Not that there's anyone else that Bella can end up with but still. He's so hot and nice and sweet. I love the fact that Bella is an ordinary girl and I could relate to her. The fact that she faints at the sight of blood was so ironic. I think there is going to be a sequel. I wonder what it would be about?

MY THOUGHTS ON NEW MOON( First time I read it)

This book was really depressing but I think it was important for the overall story. Bella keeps saying that she can't live without Edward and Edward is her only true love but how can we be sure about that? If this book hadn't been written we would never have gotten the answer to this question. So I liked this book.

MY THOUGHTS on Eclipse( First Time)

I don't get the point of this book. It's been very clear since the first book itself who Bella is going to choose... I really don't get the point of this book at all? Bella is just being cruel and making both the guys suffer...My least favorite book in the series.

My thoughts on Breaking Dawn.
WAIT ... WHAT?? WHERE DID THIS PLOT POINT COME FROM?? HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?? HUH ... Wait there's going to be a fight?? YAYYYYYY!! Some action. There are loads of chapters from Jake's point of view that are really funny.SPOILER There is no fight. I was really looking forward to it but at least nobody died and there's a happy ever after.

At that time I hadn't noticed the fact that Bella was REALLY LAME! and annoying. I actually started disliking Bella after the movie came out.

Kristen Stewart's portrayal of Bella opened my eyes. Bella was annoying, irritating and needy. I sometimes wonder if I would have thought the same if the character would have been portrayed by some other actor.

I think my entire perception of the series changed after this movie came out.

I HATED THIS MOVIE! I'm sorry Robert Pattison fans but I just don't think that he was a good choice for Edward. And DO NOT GET ME STARTED on the movie.*shudders* I hate to say it but the movie ruined the Twilight magic for me.

So Today I'm not obsessed with Twilight.
TODAY, I find Bella lame.
TODAY, I would recommend The Hunger Games  instead of Twilight all the time.
TODAY, I don't hate Twilight but I can see all of it's many faults.

What I don't understand is people's extreme reactions to Twilight and the judgement they are quick to pass about it.

Just because someone enjoys Twilight it doesn't mean they're stupid or that they should get a life and other rude things I don't want to write about. It's a book ,either you like it or you don't . Being a Twilight lover or hater shouldn't define a person.I really don't understand why people have to get all rude and mean and judgmental about a person if they like Twilight or if they don't like Twilight.IT'S A BOOK PEOPLE! Everybody has their own opinions on every book. Live and Let live. Respect other people's opinion and just state your own opinions in a nice civilized manner.

Midnight Sun and unfinished novel which is basically Twilight from Edward's point of view is I think the best book in the series so far.Even today I like reading it because it gives insight into why Edward likes the plain and annoying Bella. If Stephenie Meyer ever completes that book I will definitely buy it.

So there you have it. MY THOUGHTS on the Twilight Saga.

I'll be posting my thoughts on Breaking Dawn Part 2 (the movie) in another post because I want to fangirl over the changes that they made in it.

  1. I think it's always the case when something gets HUGE in the mainstream. People will find that it's cool to go the opposite of what most people think and in this case, hating the Twilight series.

    1. That's an interesting perspective .. I didn't think about it that way. People do find it cool to rebel and what better way to rebel than to trash a popular bestseller ? :)

  2. I had the same experience. I was in love with these books when they first came out and not many people had heard of them. The movie and the hype that followed ruined the story completely for me. It's been a few years since I last read them and I don't know if my reading experience will be the same if I do read them again, but for now I don't feel the need to. I'm a bit over it, all thanks to the hype.

    1. Hype does ruin the reading experience.. SO MANY people told me that Divergent is amazing that by the time I read it I wasn't very impressed..

  3. I don't know..I think it's because I was never into Edward so the movie didn't ruin the books for me. Taylor is far from being a great actor but he's an amazing Jacob in my opinion. And for some reason I liked the first movie better than the book. It's so lame that it's funny :)
I agree about Kristen and Bella. Both are annoying.

    1. You're right the movie was so lame that it was funny but it actually took away some of the magic as most people started making fun of Twilight as they hadn't read the books AND TAYLOR is way more awesome than Robert :)

  5. Sweet post!! I agree with you on so many points. When I first read Twilight, there was nothing like it out there. I wasn't into reading Anne Rice's vampires. Most paranormal books were adult books. So yes, Twilight paved the way for YA-paranormal. And vamps and werewolves. That credit goes to Stephanie Meyers.
Bella was weak as a character. Kristen Stewart added another dimension to Bella - she made her grate on my nerves. It was painful.
But Jake, now THAT is one of the high points of Twilight. :D I want to hear you talk about him when you write the Breaking Dawn 2 post!!!

    1. I wasn't a huge fan of Jake in the books... It was like Stephenie Meyer thought you know what... there needs to be a triangle in the second novel and added him.
I LOVE TAYLOR LAUTNER in the movies though.. So I'm Team Jake in the movies

  6. I love the Twilight series when it first came out. The first movie and second one were the best, IMO. I agree with you, let people like what they like. No one should be made fun of! :)

Anyways the second movie was good but have you seen Breaking Dawn part 2? THAT MOVIE IS EPIC!

  7. I will wait to fangirl with you when you write your Breaking Dawn part 2 post. And there will definitely be fangirling! Now, on to this post.... I admit it, and I always will, that I love the series. The books, but not the movies. The movies, up to the final one, were laughable. But the books are ones that I will probably read once a year, for a long time to come. I love them, and I am not ashamed! Now I really need to read Midnight Sun.

  8. Haha! This is an amazing post. I totally agree with you about the movies ruining the Twilight magic for me. I will admit, I watch the first movie before I read the books. But after not hating the first movie and seeing all of the hype about the books, I figured I'd pick up the series and see how it was. I fell in love with it. It was awesome and I wouldn't say I was obsessed, but I could talk your ear off about all of the characters and the plot and everything. Then, when I watched the later movies in the series, every movie took a little more away from that magic that was the books. I don't know why or how, but somehow seeing the movies come to life made all of the lame and annoying parts of the books stand out and eventually I started saying "Eh. Twilight's okay, but it's not great. Bella's annoying, Edward's weird and annoying, and Jacob is whiny." I used to LOVE these characters. Now I can just tolerate them. I'm praying that this doesn't happen with The Host when the movie comes out in March because it is my absolute favorite book ever and if the movie ruins it for me I'm going to cry.

    1. I'M VERY scared about The Host as well! Ian was my all time favourite character and I don't like the person they've chosen at ALL! Also the trailer isn't that amazing.. I LOVED the book but I'm scared to watch the movie..

  9. You know, I didn't even know it was unpopular to like Twilight until I started reading blogs. I was obsessed w/the series and first two movies. Now, I see it w/the flaws, but still enjoy it. If someone doesn't like it, fine. But I agree w/you on not putting people down if they love it.
    Thanks for sharing!

  10. I do think it is sad that there is such a hatred against it with some readers, and this was what made me initially dislike it and so form the opinion without even reading the books! (I watched film 1 first and this was a mistake). Then i recently decided to read the entire sereies, and to forget about the films for i wanted to actually make my own mind up about this series without listning to others...I was totally wrong in my judgement and after reading all 4 books i apsolutely LOVED IT!! I have since seen films 2 & 3, but prefer the books to the films as Kirstin Stewart was not my ideal Bella - in the books. Stephanie Meyer's writing is so good and if i could turn back the clock i definately would have read the books first and then seen the films, just like one did in Harry Potter; where you can envisage it in your mind first and form an opinion before then seeing someone elses vision on the big screen.

    1. A lot of people are very judgmental about Twilight.. I'm glad you tried it out and enjoyed it despite the negative feedback given to you by the people around you! Stephanie Meyer does manage to engross an individual in the story,Doesn't she..

  11. I think I really disliked the books (well, the first two, because I can't get any further), because I already read SO many other great books. It just couldn't stand up against all the wonderful books I experienced. I do think that everybody must read whatever they like and I'm not such a hater, but I find Twilight somewhat disturbing. Their relationship is so unhealthy and her behaviour is bad; she is one of the most irritating characters I've ever read about :p But, if someone likes Twilight, it's totally up to them. I like the fact that a lot of people started to read after these books, so in a way, they have a great effect on people :) I know that my sister (who hardly reads a book) devoured them - and that is what I appreciate about Twilight.

    1. I realized how unhealthy their relationship is after watching the movie but it's also a little realistic.. VERY dramatic people go all "I can't live without him anymore" but usually that happens when a relationship lasts a LOT longer than their relationship.. I think paranormal YA has improved a lot after Twilight though

  13. LOVE this post, Krazzyme! To me, the Twilight Saga was a whole big hype machine with nothing of quality or even enjoyment to offer. Twilight was mediocre, a decent thing to entertain for a rainy day, New Moon was excessively depressing and cumbersome to slog through, Eclipse was so full of ANGST and dying luuuurve, and Breaking Dawn was just a mess of a novel. Basically, I agree with mostly everything you said in your post. :) What will your rant be about next time, hmm? Fifty Shades of Gray, perhaps? ;)

    1. I tried reading Fifty Shades of Gray but couldn't finish it. I REALLY TRIED but the grammatical errors *shudders* I'm pretty sure there are better books like that around which don't make me squirm with the weird dialogue and keep mentioning an "inner goddess"

  14. It does have a lot of faults but it was also a series that got me reading again so I will always love it for that.
