Review:Anew

BLURB: Two years ago, Scarlet awoke in the forest alone, afraid, and unable to remember anything. Lost and confused, her life was a mystery...until she met a boy with a familiar voice.

Gabriel Archer has a voice from her past, and Scarlet's determined to remember why. She immerses herself in his life only to discover he has a brother he's kept hidden from her: Tristan Archer.

Upon meeting Tristan, Scarlet's world becomes even more muddled. While she's instinctively drawn to Gabriel, she's impossibly drawn to Tristan--and confused out of her mind. As she tries to piece together her history Scarlet realizes her past...might just be the death of her.

My Thoughts:
This book did not start off well.I was seriously considering just putting it down after reading the first 4/5 pages BUT the second chapter was AMAZING.I realized I was going to like this one after reading the second chapter itself!

The story
I have never read anything like this book.Just when I think I know what's going to happen next.BAM! The author throws a curve-ball.The story was fresh and unpredictable. What more can you want from a novel? There were a lot of surprises in this one. The best part is the fact that it's not based on any mythology (That I know of ) It's a complete universe built up by the author's imagination.Technically this concept (of immortals) isn't new  but the author gives it such a twist that you completely forget about vampires and all those other immortal creatures in the fictional world.

Characters

Scarlet
My major problem with this book was with Scarlet.I just couldn't connect with her. There were times when I wanted to tell her to snap out of it! There were also times when I could see why she couldn't snap out of it (The girl has been through a LOT) but I just couldn't get myself to see what was so great about her.WHY would a guy like her? WHY does the guy like her? The author did answer these questions but I was not satisfied with the answers.I was waiting very impatiently to read the novel from the guys point of views half the time.

Gabriel
THIS GUY is blind!! I tell you blind!! (Not literally)

Sorry! Just needed to get that off my chest .Apart from what I stated above I  liked him.I'm not on Team Gabriel but I liked this guy. There were times when I liked him much more than Tristan and I loved getting a peak into his mind.(There are some chapters from his point of view)

Tristan
I liked this character.I have no idea why. There were times when I found him to be a little disturbing but I like complex characters so I was willing to overlook the disturbing parts .I really liked the flashbacks in which we got to see the REAL Tristan before he became the mess he is in the present day. I'm Team Tristan!

The Ending
WHAT THE HELL?

What an ending! I need to know what happens next!
There's a HUGE cliffhanger at the end.(YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!)

Overall,I was gripped by the this book and couldn't put it down and in the end WANTED more!

My Rating:
3/5

Read for the story!

  8. 3 out of 5 ain't bad for a book that I have been interested in for a long time. There is something that intrigues me about the synopsis, and then reading your review that says this book is different from anything else, makes me even more intrigued. It might not be perfect, but I definitely plan to read it someday. Thanks for the review!
